MSU Marks Third Anniversary With Green-Lit Vigil at Beaumont Tower

The university signaled next steps toward a student-guided permanent memorial targeted for completion by fall.

Overview

  • A remembrance at Beaumont Tower on Feb. 13 was livestreamed via MSU’s Spartans Together page.
  • Bells rang for just over 20 minutes as Beaumont Tower, the MSU Union and Berkey Hall were lit green, with luminaries distributed and placed at the tower entrance.
  • MSU canceled classes to allow access to on-campus mental-health services, with indoor support spaces at the Breslin Center’s Hall of History and the MSU Alumni Chapel and a heated volunteer tent providing resources, including luminary kits.
  • The 2023 attack killed students Arielle Anderson, Brian Fraiser and Alexandria Verner and injured five others; the gunman died of a self-inflicted wound after police confronted him off campus.
  • The planned memorial is slated to include a granite fountain, benches and landscaping at the former horticulture garden, with students helping choose the design through surveys and completion hoped for by the end of the fall.
