MSC Breaks Ground on New Germany HQ in Hamburg’s HafenCity

The project signals MSC’s long-term commitment to Hamburg’s port through its partnership with the city.

Overview

  • Construction began on February 25 at Ericusgraben by Lohsepark, marking the start of MSC’s seven‑storey headquarters project.
  • The building will provide more than 15,000 square meters of office space for about 700 employees on a roughly 2,600 square meter site, with a showroom and a restaurant offering around 1,000 square meters for the public.
  • Plans call for Fleet-style waterfront construction using recycled concrete and rooftop photovoltaics to cut the building’s environmental footprint.
  • Completion is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028, when MSC Germany plans to relocate from its current office in the Speicherstadt.
  • The headquarters move complements MSC’s partnership with Hamburg and its stake tied to HHLA, with the city set to hold 50.1 percent and MSC up to 49.9 percent, and the company pledging to steer more cargo throughput to the port.
