Overview
- M&S and the Food Standards Agency issued a 'do not eat' recall after tests found Listeria monocytogenes in a single 150g batch of M&S Food Truffle Gouda (product code 29424887, use-by 9 October 2026) announced on Wednesday.
- Marks & Spencer has told customers to return the specific packs to any store for a full refund and is displaying point-of-sale notices in branches that sold the affected batch.
- The FSA said Listeria infections can produce flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea and can cause serious complications like meningitis in pregnant people, infants, older adults and immunocompromised people.
- The NHS advises anyone who becomes sick to avoid contact with others and stay away from work or school until at least 48 hours after vomiting or diarrhoea have stopped.
- Listeria can grow at refrigeration temperatures and has a long incubation window of days to several weeks, so consumers who bought the recalled batch should return it and monitor for symptoms while awaiting any further updates from M&S and the FSA.
