Más Madrid Reaffirms García and Maestre as Its 2027 Candidates

A decisive internal vote settles party leadership, setting a course to add independents and prepare coalition talks before the 2027 elections.

Overview

  • Más Madrid confirmed Mónica García as its candidate for president of the Community of Madrid and Rita Maestre as its candidate for mayor of Madrid after internal primaries that ran July 4–6.
  • The party reported very high participation, with 90.04% of the regional membership voting and the winning head-of-list tickets taking roughly 80% (regional) and 81.2% (municipal) of support.
  • Más Madrid used an open, unlocked list and the Dowdall arithmetic method to allocate places, producing strong majorities for the winning tickets: 42 of 44 regional slots and 26 of 28 municipal slots went to the victorious lists.
  • An internal current called Más Madrid Abierto campaigned for more horizontal decision-making and greater participation but was decisively outvoted and will remain a minority voice inside the party.
  • The party will now complete its lists with independent and civil-society figures and pursue possible coalition talks as it positions García and Maestre to challenge the ruling Partido Popular in Madrid next year.
