Overview
- The BMC and civic officials say the 750-metre, four-lane extension is in its final phase and will be structurally ready for opening on Sunday, May 31, pending load tests and formal clearances.
- The project cost has risen from the originally approved Rs. 209.64 crore to about Rs. 247.97–248 crore, a jump of roughly Rs. 38.33 crore that drew scrutiny from the civic standing committee.
- The BMC has stepped up pressure on the contractor with daily penalties that began at Rs. 25,000 from May 1 and were raised to Rs. 1 lakh from May 12 to force timely completion before the monsoon.
- Remaining tasks include final load testing, installation of traffic signals and lighting, stormwater works, painting and the power connection to be provided by Adani Electricity, all of which must be cleared by the traffic department.
- Once open, the flyover will link Ram Mandir and Goregaon, integrate with the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road and the Coastal Road, and is expected to cut peak travel on the corridor from 30–45 minutes to about five minutes.
