MPC Entry Sets Up Five-Way Fight for Mizoram’s Dampa Bypoll on Nov. 11

Overview

• On the last day of filing, MPC vice-president K. Zahmingthanga submitted his nomination, joining ZPM’s Vanlalsailova, MNF’s R. Lalthangliana, Congress’s John Rotluangliana and BJP’s Lalhmangaiha.
• The seat, vacant since MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo’s death on July 21, moves to scrutiny on October 22, withdrawals by October 24, polling on November 11 and counting on November 14.
• The Election Commission has deployed General, Police and Expenditure Observers, with state police nodal officer H. Ramthlengliana overseeing security and expenditure monitoring.
• Dampa has 20,790 registered voters and 41 polling stations in Mamit district along the Bangladesh border, with notable Chakma and Reang communities.
• ZPM launched its campaign with Chief Minister Lalduhoma announcing allocations exceeding Rs 700 crore for water supply and other development in the constituency.
