MP High Court Sets April 27 Start for Hearings on 27% OBC PG Quota

A Supreme Court remand requires a quick ruling within three months.

Overview

  • The High Court, which on Thursday listed a batch of 33 petitions, set consolidated hearings to start April 27 at 12:30 pm after moving the April 15 date when ASG K M Nataraj said he could not attend.
  • The case centers on a March 2019 order that raised OBC postgraduate medical reservation from 14% to 27%, pushing total quotas beyond the Supreme Court’s 50% ceiling.
  • The Supreme Court in February 2026 sent the disputes back to the High Court and asked for an expeditious decision within three months.
  • Two petitions, Deepak Kumar Patel and Harishankar Barodhiya, were removed from the High Court batch after a March 20 recall and will be listed before the Supreme Court.
  • A related 2022 directive told the state commission to use an 87–13 selection formula, which put hiring on hold for portions of OBC and general lists and has drawn separate legal challenges.
