Mozilla Sets February 2026 End of Firefox Support on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1

Users are advised to move to Windows 10 or 11 or adopt a Linux distribution to keep receiving Firefox updates.

Overview

  • Firefox 115 is the final build for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 and is maintained on the Extended Support Release channel.
  • That ESR version will get only essential security patches through the end of February 2026.
  • After the cutoff, Firefox on those legacy Windows versions will no longer receive security or feature updates.
  • Mozilla says unsupported operating systems have known vulnerabilities and that continuing support is costly and risky.
  • Firefox will continue to support Windows 10, and Mozilla highlights Linux as a viable alternative as many distributions ship Firefox by default.
