Mountain View Lifts Final Boil Order After Water-Main Contamination

Cleared by two state-supervised coliform tests, the line was reconnected to the final 21 homes with city-run flushing assistance available.

Overview

  • A contractor’s cement slurry entered a live water main near Cuesta Park on April 24, contaminating the supply and affecting roughly 60 to 67 homes in the neighborhood.
  • City crews isolated the affected lines, performed super-chlorination and repeated flushing of mains and service lines under state supervision to remove contamination.
  • Boil-water restrictions for 46 homes were lifted on May 6 after clearing tests, and the remaining 21 homes had their notices removed and were reconnected on May 20 after two consecutive state-supervised samples showed no coliform.
  • The city has continued emergency support including bottled water, shower access and hotel reimbursements, and it is advising residents to flush household plumbing and offering direct help via WaterQuality@mountainview.gov or 650-903-6081.
  • Temporary above-ground pipelines will be removed and roadway and sidewalk repairs will follow, and the city has pursued cost recovery from the contractor for the breach and remediation costs.
