Overview
- Franklin Enrique Sarceno Orla, 34, was captured in Guatemala, extradited to the Bay Area, and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on Thursday with assistance from U.S. and Guatemalan agencies including the U.S. Marshals and Diplomatic Security Service.
- He is expected to be arraigned in Palo Alto on Oct. 27 on 43 sex-assault felonies and related charges, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
- Investigators say victims often drank with the suspect, lost consciousness, and awoke injured, and prosecutors allege seized evidence shows many assaults were recorded on video.
- Officials say Orla was first arrested in August 2024, posted $250,000 bail, fled before a scheduled court appearance in November, and allegedly continued assaults after his release.
- Authorities believe there may be more than 60 victims dating to at least 2018 and report medical records show the defendant is HIV positive, with all allegations to be proven in court.
