Mount Prospect Police Seek Tips on Five Masked Suspects in Camaro Break-In Attempt

Police urge residents to call 911 instead of confronting suspected car burglars.

Overview

  • Mount Prospect police, who were called around 7:05 a.m. Tuesday to the 1700 block of East Camp McDonald Road, are investigating an attempted break-in of a parked Chevrolet Camaro.
  • Home security video reviewed by the owner showed two vehicles arrive about 5:20 a.m. as five masked people approached the car.
  • Police said two suspects appeared to hold handguns and acted as lookouts while others briefly entered the Camaro before the group left east on Camp McDonald Road.
  • The owner later found glovebox items on the floor and a driver’s door that would not open, with damage reported inside the door but no missing property.
  • Officers increased patrols and asked anyone with tips to call 847-870-5654 after describing the suspects as possibly white in hoodies and masks and the vehicles as a light sedan and a dark SUV.
