Motorcyclist Killed in Greetland Crash as Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Dangerous Driving

West Yorkshire Police has opened a Major Collision Enquiry Team investigation and is urging witnesses and dashcam owners to come forward under log 620.

Overview

  • A Fiat Ducato van and a Yamaha MT motorcycle collided at the crossroads of Scar Bottom Lane, Saddleworth Road and Gate Head Lane in Greetland during the mid-morning on Thursday, leaving the 29-year-old motorcyclist fatally injured at the scene.
  • Emergency services including two ambulances and an air ambulance attended and the road was closed in both directions while officers carried out initial enquiries.
  • A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, was interviewed by detectives and has been released on bail pending further investigation.
  • Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are collecting witness statements, forensic evidence and any dashcam footage to establish how the collision happened and they have asked anyone with information to contact police via 101 or online quoting log 620 of June 25.
  • The force has informed the motorcyclist’s immediate family and the inquiry could result in criminal charges if investigators find evidence that dangerous driving caused the death, while the local community is being asked to check dashcam clips for footage that may help clarify what happened.
