Motive Raises $1.3 Billion From General Catalyst, Shelves IPO

The financing funds accelerated AI model and product work plus expansion of field sales and support teams.

Overview

  • Motive announced Thursday that it accepted more than $1.3 billion in growth financing from General Catalyst and formally withdrew its S-1, opting to remain a private company for now.
  • General Catalyst’s managing director Pranav Singhvi will join Motive’s board as part of the deal, giving the investor a direct governance role in scaling the business.
  • The company reported annual recurring revenue above $600 million with roughly 30% year‑over‑year ARR growth, nearly 60% growth in large accounts and net revenue retention above 120%.
  • Motive says it will use the capital to speed AI model and product development, roll out Maintenance and Operations Intelligence capabilities, and hire more field sales, support and service staff to reduce collisions and downtime for customers.
  • Founded in 2013 as KeepTruckin, Motive now serves nearly 100,000 customers and more than one million commercial vehicles, a small share of a much larger North American market and a key reason leadership chose private funding over an immediate public listing.
