Overview
- A jury at Teesside Crown Court, which returned verdicts on Tuesday, found Harrison Simpson unanimously guilty of murder and assault by penetration and found Alexandra Walker guilty of murder by an 11–1 majority.
- Prosecutors and pathologists told the court that Isabelle suffered a fractured skull, brain damage, about 21 broken bones and numerous bruises and abrasions consistent with repeated physical and sexual abuse.
- The trial heard that Walker delayed calling emergency services while Isabelle lay gravely unwell and that both defendants offered shifting accounts as they blamed each other for the injuries.
- Eleven days before the fatal injury Isabelle was taken to hospital with a broken leg, staff expressed concerns about discharging her and a later health‑visitor phone assessment did not trigger further action.
- Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday when judges will set minimum terms for the automatic life sentences, and police, the CPS and child‑protection groups have urged lessons to prevent similar safeguarding failures.
