- Josie Hasan, a mother of two from Plymouth, died from metastatic melanoma on March 28, her family said.
- A mole first removed in 2022 regrew through the scar, and despite her requests for scans she was reassured until tests by March 2023 showed stage three cancer in her lymph nodes.
- Doctors began immunotherapy, but the second round triggered myasthenia gravis, a severe nerve and muscle disorder, which led them to stop treatment as the cancer later spread to her liver, lungs and spine.
- Relatives are promoting daily SPF 30–50, avoiding sunbeds, and prompt checks for skin changes, building on the ‘Josie’s Journey’ community she created to encourage early detection.
- The family has launched a fundraiser for her husband, Laith, and their daughters after a small earlier insurance payout canceled the policy and left them without the expected life cover.
