Motagua Confirms Romario Da Silva’s Ankle Fracture-Dislocation, Plans Sunday Surgery

Team doctors now target May 17 for reconstructive surgery pending tissue recovery.

Overview

  • Da Silva, who suffered the injury Tuesday when his left foot stuck in the turf against Olancho FC, left the field on a stretcher and was taken by ambulance.
  • The club said imaging showed a luxofracture of the left ankle, an open fracture with dislocation, and doctors cleaned the wound to remove grass to lower the risk of infection.
  • Motagua reported more debridement is scheduled, and if the area improves, surgery is set for Sunday, May 17.
  • The surgical plan calls for repairing the ankle capsule and the deltoid ligament and fixing the fibula with plates and screws.
  • Recovery time remains uncertain, with some reports suggesting about four to six months and outside specialists warning it could take nine to twelve months depending on complications.
