Mortal Shell 2 Revered Edition Sells Out Ahead of PS5 Release

This sellout signals continuing collector demand that calls into question Sony’s plan to end new disc production in 2028.

Overview

  • Publisher Playstack announced July 16 that demand for the PS5-exclusive Revered Edition exceeded expectations and that supply at many retailers is fully reserved or sold out.
  • Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry warned there is a very low chance of extra copies arriving before the August 20 launch and that any post-launch restock is not guaranteed because distribution decisions lie with partners.
  • The Revered Edition, priced around $69.99, bundles a PS5 physical disc, SteelBook case, art book, prints and digital bonuses and is already appearing on resale sites at prices above retail.
  • Analysts and fans point to the sellout as evidence that limited physical runs still have commercial and cultural value even as most game sales shift digital and Sony plans to stop new disc production in January 2028.
  • If this pattern holds, it could push more publishers to favor small collector runs for special editions and prompt scrutiny of Sony’s disc policy from players who prefer physical ownership.
