Mortal Kombat II Heads to HBO Max on July 24

A one-week theatrical-to-streaming turnaround with an ASL Visual Vernacular edition expands the film’s reach after a roughly $129 million global box office.

  • HBO Max will begin streaming Mortal Kombat II on July 24, and the film will air on HBO linear the following day at 8:00 p.m. ET.
  • The streaming launch will include an American Sign Language performance using Visual Vernacular performed by Justin Perez and directed by Rosa Lee Timm to translate the movie’s highly visual action.
  • A physical 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD release is scheduled for July 28 for viewers who prefer owning a copy.
  • The R-rated sequel was directed by Simon McQuoid from a Jeremy Slater script, features Karl Urban as Johnny Cage alongside returning and new cast members, and earned about $129 million worldwide.
  • Reports say a Mortal Kombat III is in early development with Slater expected to return as writer, but that project has not been officially greenlit by the studio.
