Morning Blackout Cuts Power to Tens of Thousands in Avellaneda

Edesur crews are working to restore supply with the ENRE interactive map showing a mid‑morning normalization forecast of service

Overview

  • A sudden power failure on the morning of Wednesday, June 24 left a peak of more than 32,000 Edesur customers without electricity and about 21,500 still out of service after 8 a.m.
  • The hardest hit neighborhoods included Avellaneda, Dock Sud, Gerli, Piñeyro, Sarandí, Florencio Varela and Lanús within Edesur’s concession area.
  • Edesur technicians began repair work after the fault was detected and the ENRE service monitor initially projected normalization around 10:30 a.m., with at least one update reporting a later 12:30 estimate as crews worked.
  • The outage knocked out many traffic lights and caused delays and safety risks on local roads while low winter temperatures increased hardship for vulnerable residents.
  • Customers can follow real‑time status, affected areas and restoration forecasts on the ENRE interactive map and should expect fluctuating figures as repairs proceed and authorities update estimates.
