Overview
- The Kölner Haie announced Tuesday that 39-year-old captain Moritz Müller has signed a one-year contract extension to play the 2026–27 season for the club.
- The club teased the decision with an Instagram clip showing Müller saying “So, da bin ich wieder!” before making the extension official.
- Müller will enter his 24th season with the Haie and is set to pass Mirko Lüdemann’s club appearance mark of 1,197 DEL games after starting the next campaign with 1,183 appearances.
- Müller previously declined the 2026 World Championship for family reasons and worked as a TV expert, but the extension leaves open the possibility he could play at the 2027 home World Championship in Germany.
- Sport director Matthias Baldys said the club values Müller’s on-ice play and off-ice presence as the Haie reorganize under new coach Thomas Berglund and prepare for Champions Hockey League fixtures, which will increase the team’s match load.
