Morgan Fire Burns on Mount Diablo, Prompting Evacuation Warnings

Overview

  • The Morgan Fire broke out near Morgan Territory Road and Marsh Creek Road on Mount Diablo and was reported to county crews just before 3 p.m. Friday.
  • Firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire deployed engines, aircraft and helitankers to battle the blaze with active ground and air operations underway.
  • Estimates of the burned area varied in early reports, with some officials and trackers citing about 50 acres and others reporting roughly 125 acres as the fire spread in steep, brush-covered terrain.
  • Evacuation warnings cover zones CCC-249 and CCC-250 south along the east side of Mount Diablo State Park, telling residents to be ready to leave quickly while no mandatory orders or confirmed structure threats were reported.
