Monu Manesar Freed on Bail in Junaid–Nasir Murder Case After 2½ Years in Custody

The High Court said prolonged custody with no witnesses examined justified release on bail, with prosecution ongoing.

Overview

  • Rajasthan High Court granted regular bail on March 5, and Monu Manesar was released from Sewar/Sevar Central Jail on March 7 after formalities under heavy police security.
  • He returned to his native Manesar in Gurugram wearing a bulletproof jacket, where supporters greeted him with garlands, drum beats and late-night celebrations.
  • The case concerns the February 2023 deaths of cousins Junaid and Nasir, whose charred bodies were found in a burnt vehicle in Haryana’s Bhiwani, with forensic reports identifying the remains and bloodstains as theirs.
  • The court noted no witness out of 74 had been examined and referenced bail granted to a co-accused by the Supreme Court, setting conditions that include a Rs 1 lakh personal bond, two sureties of Rs 50,000 each, quarterly police station attendance and a directive not to reoffend.
  • Victims’ relatives voiced fear and disappointment after the release, the Bajrang Dal denied allegations linked to its members, and authorities stressed that bail does not amount to acquittal as the investigation and trial continue.
