Montgomery County Man Indicted for Impersonating FBI Agent in Philadelphia Grocery Store

Prosecutors say his tactical gear together with a loaded handgun posed a public-safety threat that led to federal charges.

Overview

  • Federal prosecutors announced an indictment on July 23 charging 54-year-old Seok Joon Lee with impersonating an FBI agent for his actions at a Philadelphia grocery store.
  • Authorities say that on April 22 Lee entered the store wearing a bulletproof vest and a law-enforcement style duty belt and told a security guard he was an FBI agent while attempting a security check.
  • Investigators allege Lee carried a holstered firearm with 13 rounds and two spare magazines and later told responding Philadelphia police he was an "undercover FBI" and that credentials could be found elsewhere.
  • The FBI, Philadelphia Police Department and ATF worked together on the investigation, Lee was arrested after the incident and has since been released on bail.
  • If convicted on the impersonation charge, Lee faces a monetary fine and up to three years in prison and the case will proceed through the federal court system.
