Monterrey Starts Dynamic Tests for Mexico’s First Monorail

Engineers are running millimetric safety checks on the new Lines 4 and 6 system with service targeted for early 2027.

Overview

  • Non‑passenger dynamic tests began, with Wednesday’s trial runs checking wheel‑to‑beam contact and automated controls at Metrorrey’s yards.
  • The new Lines 4 and 6 will cover roughly 34 kilometers and are promoted as Mexico’s first monorail and one of the most extensive in Latin America.
  • Each train has six cars for about 720 riders and uses 92 rubber tires on a single concrete beam, which cuts noise compared with steel rails.
  • The system features Grade‑4 driverless operation, digital signaling, climate control and onboard Wi‑Fi, with trains supplied by China’s CRRC.
  • Officials place construction progress between about 75% and 85% and now target early 2027 service, with a June 3 public display at Parque Fundidora described as possible.
