Monterey Detectives Recover Car and Seek Video After Newborn Found Dead Near Moss Landing

Detectives say the recovered vehicle has produced leads and they are asking the public for dashcam and surveillance footage to help identify who left the newborn.

Overview

  • A newborn's body was found alongside the 100 block of Struve Road north of Moss Landing, and first responders confirmed the infant was dead when they arrived on Saturday.
  • Investigators released photos of a beige 2010 Mercury Milan with plate 6HCR883 and announced the vehicle was located and recovered on Thursday as part of the probe.
  • Detectives are asking anyone who saw the car or its occupants on Aug. 1 or Aug. 2 and anyone with dashcam or surveillance video to contact investigators at the numbers provided by the sheriff's office.
  • Officials have not released the infant's identity, age, gender, or a suspected cause or manner of death and say the inquiry is ongoing.
  • A separate set of apparent human remains found the same morning near Old Stage Road is being treated as a distinct case, and a small memorial has formed at the Struve Road scene.
