Overview
- Heavy, persistent monsoon downpours in mid-July triggered flash floods and landslides across Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring states, with the State Emergency Operation Centre reporting about 1.03 lakh people affected, seven deaths and 29 injured.
- Floodwaters washed away key crossings including an 84-metre bridge over the Kumey and multiple Bailey and suspension spans, cutting road links to dozens of villages and leaving some habitations unreachable by vehicle.
- Rescue and repair teams from the Border Roads Organisation, SDRF, paramilitary units and local administrations are conducting restorations and evacuations, but damaged roads and recurring landslides are slowing access and relief delivery.
- Assam and the Darjeeling–Sikkim hills are also seeing linked impacts: Assam bulletins list roughly 37,000 people affected with a disputed toll of three to four, and NH-10 and hill roads have been repeatedly blocked by landslides.
