Monsoon Floods Ease in Arunachal Pradesh as Weather Clears

Overview

• Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods from late June triggered landslides and flash floods that caused at least four deaths, 21 injuries and two people reported missing.
• State emergency officials reported on Saturday that no fresh casualties were recorded in the previous 24 hours and fresh flood incidents were limited to a few villages in West Siang and Papum Pare districts.
• The State Emergency Operation Centre says the disasters have affected about 305 villages across 222 circles and roughly 92,294 people with 498 houses damaged and wide damage to roads, bridges, water schemes and power lines.
• Relief and restoration work is under way with two relief camps sheltering about 150 people in Keyi Panyor, road‑clearance teams operating in several districts and the civil aviation department conducting helicopter sorties to airlift rice and other supplies.
• Authorities are keeping preparedness high because the India Meteorological Department’s yellow watch from July 6 warns parts of eastern and central Arunachal Pradesh of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning that could hamper relief and damage infrastructure further.
