Monsoon Establishes Across Telangana, Bringing Cooler Days and Patchy Rains

The India Meteorological Department has warned of isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms that could produce gusty winds in several districts.

Overview

  • The arrival of the southwest monsoon this week has lowered daytime highs across Telangana from above 42°C to around 39°C and produced cooler pockets such as Sangareddy, which recorded a 32.7°C maximum.
  • Rain was recorded in 198 of the state’s 621 mandals with widely varying intensity: very light in 101 mandals, light in 73 mandals, and moderate in 24 mandals.
  • The IMD has issued short-term watches for isolated heavy rainfall in multiple districts and says thunderstorms with lightning are likely at scattered locations.
  • Forecasts warn of gusty winds of about 30–40 kmph accompanying storms, raising the risk of localized tree fall, power disruption, and difficulty for outdoor workers and commuters.
  • Hyderabad has seen clouds and brief drizzle and is expected to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next 48 hours, while local monitoring notes uneven rainfall across districts that will leave some areas much drier than others.
