- Monmouth confirmed that Louis DiRienzo Jr. died unexpectedly, with reporting saying he passed away on Saturday and the university announcing his death the following Wednesday.
- Athletic director Jennifer Sansevero called his passing heartbreaking and head coach Jeff Gallo said DiRienzo was a great person, father and coach who poured into the program and players.
- DiRienzo joined Monmouth in February 2025 as linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator and was promoted to defensive coordinator in January 2026.
- He is survived by his wife Allison and their twin daughters, Audrina and Giavanna, and wake and funeral services have been scheduled at Westchester Funeral Home and Assumption of Our Lady Church.
- DiRienzo built his résumé with five seasons at Springfield College and stops at Rutgers and Wagner, and his 2025 work helped Monmouth post one of the Coastal Athletic Association’s most improved defenses, leaving a gap the program must now fill.
