Overview
- On Monday the Browns’ head coach Todd Monken told reporters he does not want the team to acquire Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby through the supplemental draft, calling the idea a “slippery slope.”
- Monken said his view is personal and that he has not been kept in the loop on how general manager Andrew Berry and the personnel staff are evaluating Sorsby.
- A Lubbock hearing over Sorsby’s bid to regain NCAA eligibility ended without a ruling, leaving open the possibility he could declare for the supplemental draft if reinstatement is denied.
- The supplemental draft would require teams to bid future picks to select a player, and the Browns recently gained extra future selections in the Myles Garrett trade that could be used for such a bid but no public management decision has been announced.
- Sorsby has entered a residential program for gambling addiction, retained attorney Jeffrey Kessler, and faces state and NCAA review, while there is currently no public indication the NFL would block him from playing if he becomes eligible.
