Mongolia Opens Spring Parliamentary Session as Democratic Party Launches Boycott

Speaker N. Uchral set an anti-corruption agenda and urged a review of recent civil-service cuts to reduce managerial posts.

Overview

  • Parliament convened its 2026 spring session with more than 30 bills slated, including tax changes, criminal law updates, illicit-asset recovery measures, budget items and procedural reforms.
  • The Democratic Party caucus said its members will not attend plenary sittings until N. Uchral leaves the Speaker’s post, arguing a party leader should not preside over the chamber.
  • Justice and Interior Minister B. Enkhbayar publicly rejected former Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene’s bribery allegations, calling them baseless and saying they cannot be proven.
  • The government extended to April 16 the deadline for proposals to partner on the Morin Davaa waste-to-energy PPP, a $206.5 million project designed to process 1,500 tonnes of waste per day and generate 35 MW.
  • The Energy Ministry signed a contract to build a 19.8 MW solar plant with an 8 MWh battery in Myangad, Hovd; Chinese contractors won the ADB- and climate fund–backed project, with about 40% grant financing and a planned 300-day delivery.
