Mojang Sets June 16 Release for Minecraft 26.2 'Chaos Cubed'

The update ushers in smaller themed drops, a new YY.drop versioning scheme, plus platform changes that reshape social play on Java Edition.

Overview

  • Minecraft 26.2 Chaos Cubed is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with final pre-releases and release candidates arriving beforehand to fix bugs.
  • The update adds a new underground Sulfur Caves biome where players will find Sulfur Cube mobs that absorb blocks and change their movement and physics based on what they eat.
  • Chaos Cubed introduces new materials and hazards — Sulfur and Cinnabar block families, Sulfur Spikes, geysers, and noxious Sulfur pools that apply a Nausea effect to players who enter them.
  • Players can pick up Sulfur Cubes with an empty bucket to move them, enabling new creative uses, and Java Edition will gain a Friends List while Mojang has removed peer-to-peer multiplayer support ahead of the release.
  • Mojang confirmed the YY.drop naming format for 2026 and teased a fall 26.3 Dappled Forest drop with poplar trees, red shrubs, wool stairs/slabs, and Abandoned Camps as part of a plan for smaller, regular game drops.
