Modi to Open Rs 4,000-Crore Bamboo-Themed Guwahati Airport Terminal on Dec 20

The two-day Assam tour showcases infrastructure-led outreach ahead of BJP's year-end organisational meetings.

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared first-look images of the nearly finished terminal, which features bamboo architecture, kopou phool motifs and a Gamosa-inspired design.
  • The new facility is pegged at about 13.1 million passengers per year with peak-hour handling near 4,500, alongside upgraded cargo processing capabilities.
  • During the airport event, an 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi will be unveiled on the premises.
  • On Dec 21, the Prime Minister will visit the Brahmaputra river terminal, interact with 25–30 students during a Pariksha Pe Charcha session aboard the Charaideo ferry, pay homage at the Assam Movement Martyrs’ Memorial, then travel to Dibrugarh.
  • Modi’s Dibrugarh leg includes the Namrup-IV ammonia-urea project foundation stone worth about Rs 10,000 crore to lift capacity to 12 lakh MT with a 60:40 Centre–state funding split, while the BJP has slated Dec 26–27 meetings before Amit Shah’s Dec 29 inaugurations in Guwahati and Batadrava.
