Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally flag off the 10‑coach hydrogen fuel‑cell train at Jind on July 17, with immediate commercial runs planned on the Jind–Sonipat pilot route.
- The trainset has two driving power cars rated at about 1,200 kW each, eight passenger coaches and 682 seats, and will run two round trips of 89 km each for an estimated daily distance of about 356 km.
- Third‑party safety and design validation by TÜV SÜD and regulatory licences from PESO are in place, and the Jind site now has a dedicated hydrogen refuelling and storage facility to support operations.
- Operational rules limit service to the Jind–Sonipat section at an initial speed of about 75 km/h, require maintenance at Shakurbasti with the hydrogen system deactivated, and call for trained staff and continuous monitoring of the hydrogen plant.
- The rollout is being presented alongside billions of rupees of Haryana road, rail, health and cultural projects and positions India among a small group of countries testing hydrogen traction as a low‑emission alternative to diesel.
