Modi Concludes Five‑Nation Tour With Major Energy, Chip and Nordic Green Pacts

The agreements use the IndiaEFTA trade framework to lock fuel reserves, raise semiconductor capacity, open sustained green-technology links with Norway.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 15–20, 2026 tour across the UAE and four European countries finished with concrete sector deals rather than only ceremonial visits.
  • In Abu Dhabi India secured an arrangement for 30 million barrels of strategic petroleum reserves on Indian soil and the UAE pledged nearly $5 billion in new investments.
  • A Tata Electronics–ASML agreement tied to a proposed 300‑millimetre fab in Dholera was announced, with the project reported to involve investment on the order of $11 billion.
  • India and Norway elevated ties into a Green Strategic Partnership covering renewable energy, green shipping, Arctic science, space cooperation and research collaboration, and King Harald V awarded Modi the Grand Cross.
  • All three outcomes build on the IndiaEFTA TEPA, which entered into force in October 2025 and includes an EFTA commitment to large-scale investment that could speed India’s technology, energy and green-transition goals.
