Modern Warfare 4 Sets Two Beta Weekends and Brings Call of Duty to Switch 2

The staggered beta gives pre-order players first multiplayer access while a public weekend will let Switch 2 owners and all players help stress-test servers before the October launch.

Overview

  • Activision announced Monday that Modern Warfare 4 will run an Early Access beta from August 21–25 for players who pre-order on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S and an Open Beta from August 28–September 1 that is free and includes Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 will not be eligible for the pre-order weekend but will join the open test and will have digital pre-orders for Modern Warfare 4 begin on August 26.
  • The beta focuses on multiplayer with up to 19 unlockable weapons, returning modes such as Search & Destroy, a new modular map mode called Kill Block that can be arranged in more than 500 configurations, and a Training Mobility Course.
  • Activision says the campaign will remain locked for both beta weekends and the tests are intended to check servers, performance and balance while Xbox Game Pass subscribers will not receive special early beta access and Switch 2 players may need an online subscription.
  • The open testing ties into the pre-release schedule with a Call of Duty: Next developer briefing and live gameplay on August 21 and a full game launch set for October 23 with pre-order campaign early access opening October 16.
