Modern Warfare 4 Sets Phased Beta and Returns to Nintendo Switch 2

The two-stage beta will test multiplayer systems to validate platform performance ahead of the Oct. 23 release.

Overview

  • Activision confirmed a two-weekend beta schedule with an Early Access beta from Aug. 21–25 for pre-orders on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and an Open Beta from Aug. 28–Sept. 1 that adds Nintendo Switch 2 access.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 players are excluded from the Early Access weekend, can join the Open Beta, and must have a Nintendo Account plus an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate.
  • Switch 2 pre-orders (reservations) for Modern Warfare 4 open on Aug. 26, and Activision will hold a global Call of Duty: Next livestream on Aug. 21 to preview multiplayer content and new reveals ahead of the beta.
  • The beta will let players try new Operators including Vault Edition characters, unlock up to 19 weapons, run the Training Mobility Course, play classic modes like Search & Destroy, and sample Kill Block, a modular map system with more than 500 possible configurations.
  • Beyond marketing, Activision intends the beta as a technical playtest to stress cross-platform performance and server systems, and fans will watch beta feedback for signs the game addresses recent criticisms of Modern Warfare entries.
