Modern Warfare 4 Beta Starts With Playable Campaign Mission, Two-Weekend Test

The staged beta lets players try a single-player mission while exercising servers and platform readiness ahead of the Oct. 23 release.

Overview

  • Activision begins the pre-order gated early-access beta on Friday, Aug. 21, and opens the beta to all players on Friday, Aug. 28, with Switch 2 support arriving in the second weekend.
  • For the first time in a Call of Duty beta players can play a campaign mission titled “Entrenched,” which puts users in snowy trench combat as Private Park during a North Korean invasion.
  • Multiplayer content includes 12 core 6v6 maps plus the adaptive Kill Block map that can reconfigure into hundreds of layouts, large-scale Ground War maps and the Zodiac Resurgence Warzone map in the open weekend.
  • Beta progression rewards are tiered by weekend (level cap 20 in Weekend One, 30 in Weekend Two) and include eight unlockables such as an operator skin and a weapon blueprint that will carry into the full game.
  • PC players get background shader pre-compilation to cut wait times but must meet security requirements including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and Activision is using pre-orders, Twitch drops and social giveaways to drive participation before the Oct. 23 launch.
