MNS Takes G North After UBT Pulls Out as BJP Tightens Hold in Mumbai Ward Panels

A last-minute withdrawal shifted a key race and reinforced the ruling bloc’s advantage as the BMC’s ward committee leadership nears completion.

  • MNS corporator Yashwant Killedar won the G North chair after Shiv Sena (UBT) nominee Joseph Koli withdrew just before voting in the second phase on Friday.
  • On Friday, BJP corporators Prakash Musale (K North and K South), Rohan Rathod (K West) and Shrikala Ramchandran (P South) were elected unopposed, while Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Rohini Kamble (H East/H West) and Padmaja Chemburkar (G South) also took posts unopposed.
  • With 12 of 17 committees decided over two days, the tally stands at BJP 6, Congress 2, Shiv Sena (UBT) 2, Shinde Sena 1 and MNS 1, with five committees set for March 9.
  • In Thursday’s first phase, the BJP secured three chairs unopposed in the C–D, R Central and R South committees, and Congress captured two contested posts in A–B–E and P East/P North.
  • In the F North/F South committee, Shinde Sena’s Manasi Satamkar edged Shiv Sena (UBT)’s ex-mayor Shraddha Jadhav by one vote after Congress and SP corporators were absent, prompting internal questions in the opposition.
