Overview
- Both directions of I-494 are closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between I-35W and Highway 77 to allow crews to take down the 12th Avenue bridge.
- Westbound I-494 will also close nightly next week between I-35W and Highway 100 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for new lighting installation, with traffic routed to Highway 62.
- The 12th Avenue bridge, built in 1959, has reached the end of its serviceable lifespan, according to MnDOT.
- MnDOT plans to rebuild the bridge this year with a target reopening in September that features wider sidewalks and improved pedestrian access.
- The work is part of a broader I-494 reconstruction program that is scheduled to continue through 2030.
