Overview
- The four-lane elevated road will run from the ECR–Lattice Bridge junction in Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi, measure 17.25 metres wide and 5.5 metres high, include modern safety features, and expand to six lanes at select stretches.
- Local access will be provided through five entry and exit points at LB Road junction, Thiruvanmiyur RTO, Neelankarai, Injambakkam and Akkarai, plus a new roundabout at Akkarai linking to Old Mahabalipuram Road.
- The Madras High Court disposed of a petition by Dilip Buildcon challenging the award to KNR Construction, removing a key hurdle to execution.
- Officials point to heavy demand on the corridor’s stretch, citing an estimated 1.1 lakh daily users and about 69,000 vehicles across 15 km with many signalised junctions and minor road connections.
- Project reporting states that travel time between Thiruvanmiyur and Uthandi is projected to fall from about one hour to roughly 10 minutes once the corridor is completed.
