Overview
- Police intercepted a car in Saitual district and recovered 20 bundles containing 2,02,000 methamphetamine tablets weighing 24.016 kg with an estimated value of Rs 19.21 crore, and two men were arrested.
- The drugs were hidden in secret compartments beneath the spare tyre area and along both sides beyond the mudguards, wrapped in black polythene sheets inside the vehicle.
- A case has been filed under Sections 22(c), 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and investigators are tracing the shipment's source, handlers and intended destination.
- Separately, authorities arrested an Assam resident in Champhai district with about 620 grams of heroin packed in 50 soap cases and impounded a truck believed to be used for transport.
- Officials say Mizoram's long, unfenced borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh make it a recurring transit corridor and the state has seized, since January, multiple consignments including 56 kg of methamphetamine and 11 kg of heroin.
