Mizoram Crackdown Seizes Rs 25 Crore in Drugs, Nabs Seven Across Three Districts

The sweeps underscore Mizoram’s role as a transit route for narcotics moving from Myanmar into India’s northeast.

Overview

  • Police said coordinated operations across Aizawl, Saitual and Kolasib seized heroin and meth tablets worth about Rs 25 crore and led to seven arrests that include two Myanmar nationals and suspects from Manipur, Assam and Mizoram.
  • In Aizawl’s Zemabawk area, officers intercepted two Myanmar nationals and recovered 104 grams of suspected heroin packed in nine soap cases valued at about Rs 20.4 lakh.
  • A special team in Saitual recovered 242.79 grams of suspected heroin near Keifang from a passenger identified as Md Eliyach Hussain of Barpeta, Assam, valued at roughly Rs 48.55 lakh.
  • In Kolasib’s Khuangpuilam area, officials arrested a serving Manipur policeman and an associate with 1.215 kg of heroin, seized their SUV, and booked both under section 21(c) of the NDPS Act.
  • Separate raids also intercepted a truck carrying about 19.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets and a 9mm handgun hidden in vehicle panels, signaling larger trafficking methods that investigators are now mapping.
