Mistral AI Secures $830 Million Debt to Build Nvidia-Powered Paris Data Center

The first debt deal signals a push to scale homegrown compute for European governments and companies.

Overview

  • Mistral AI, which announced the financing Monday, will buy 13,800 Nvidia GB300 GPUs to equip a new site in Bruyères-le-Châtel near Paris.
  • A seven-bank syndicate backed the $830 million package, including Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, La Banque Postale, MUFG and Natixis CIB.
  • The facility is designed for both AI training and inference with about 44 megawatts of capacity built on Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell platform.
  • Operations are slated to start in the second quarter of 2026, with the Paris-region build tied to a goal of 200 megawatts of compute across Europe by 2027.
  • Mistral, which supplies AI models to the French armed forces, casts the project as a European alternative to U.S. cloud providers so customers can keep tighter control of data and infrastructure.
