Missing Tripura Tourist Found Dead in Nagaland’s Dzükou Valley

Preliminary checks show no sign of foul play.

Overview

  • Police identified the deceased as 22-year-old Pranab Das of West Tripura, who was last seen entering the Dzükou route at Viswema on January 4 after arriving in Kohima on January 2.
  • The body was spotted on Friday afternoon and recovered early Saturday by a coordinated team of Kohima Police, district officials, SAYO volunteers and villagers.
  • Police said the body was seen near the valley helipad, while SAYO described the recovery site as above a cave near Jakhama camp on a less-used route.
  • Identification was confirmed through belongings found at the scene, including a Dzükou entry slip in his name, two mobile phones and a wallet with cash and IDs.
  • The body is at the Kohima Police Station morgue as relatives travel to Kohima, with a postmortem requested after their arrival following weeks of searches and technical checks including CDR, CAF, bank and CCTV reviews with drone-assisted sweeps.
