Missing Oldham Man Found Dead in Car Identified as Christopher Neary

Police have appealed for CCTV and dashcam footage from May 28 to June 1 to assist a Serious Collision Investigation Unit probe into the timing and cause of the crash.

Overview

  • Christopher Neary, 58, was last seen leaving his flat on Lees New Road at about 6.55pm on Thursday May 28 and was reported missing by his family.
  • On Monday night, June 1, emergency crews attended a car that had left the carriageway near the junction with Abbey Hills Road and a man was later found dead inside; GMP has since confirmed the body is Mr Neary.
  • Greater Manchester Police and the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating when and how the vehicle left the road and have not yet released a confirmed cause or exact time of the collision.
  • Officers have asked anyone with information or CCTV or dashcam footage from around 6.50pm on May 28 through June 1 to contact GMP by calling 101, using the force live chat or contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting log 3165 of 01/06/26.
  • The family have asked for privacy while enquiries continue and investigators will combine scene forensics, witness accounts and footage review to reconstruct Mr Neary’s movements and the events that led to the vehicle leaving the carriageway.
