Missing Cat Reunited With Owner 12 Years Later After Microchip Match

A microchip scan at a local clinic identified Sam following a rescue alert from new neighbors.

Overview

  • Sam, missing since May 2014, was reunited with owner Angela Furnival on March 21 after a rescue charity brought him to Kinver Edge Vets.
  • A couple who had just moved into nearby flats spotted the unwell black cat about half a mile from his old Stourbridge home and contacted Paws Together Enville.
  • At the clinic, staff scanned his microchip and reached Furnival, leading to an emotional reunion in which Sam purred and rolled over for belly rubs.
  • Vets treated an ear infection and a thyroid problem and advised keeping him indoors while his medication is stabilized.
  • Furnival and rescuers urged owners to microchip pets and keep contact details updated, noting shelters and vets routinely scan chips and that studies show chipped animals are far more likely to be returned.
