Mint Will Ship Declaration of Independence Quarter to Federal Reserve for June 1 Release

The shipment begins phased distribution that will place the third of five semiquincentennial quarters into circulation and offer collector sales through the Mint’s storefront.

Overview

  • The U.S. Mint said it will begin shipping the Declaration of Independence quarter to the Federal Reserve for distribution on Monday, June 1, 2026, starting the staged push into banks and retail circulation.
  • The coin’s obverse shows Thomas Jefferson with the inscriptions “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026,” while the reverse depicts the ringing Liberty Bell with its visible crack and the words “Declaration of Independence.”
  • This quarter is the third of five 2026 semiquincentennial quarter designs; the Mayflower Compact quarter entered circulation in January and the Revolutionary War quarter did so in March, with the Constitution and Gettysburg Address quarters to follow later in the program.
  • New coins will reach the public in two ways: gradual distribution through Federal Reserve shipments to commercial banks and retailers, and direct purchase from the U.S. Mint’s website for collectors and buyers who want guaranteed examples.
  • The semiquincentennial program also includes a dime, nickel, half dollar, and penny with commemorative designs revealed last December, a set the Mint says is meant to connect Americans to 250 years of history and could drive regional demand at banks and in commerce.
