Minnesota Opens Voting on 30 Finalists in MnDOT 'Name a Snowplow' Contest

The sixth annual contest narrowed more than 6,750 submissions to a shortlist that will yield one name per MnDOT district.

Overview

  • Online voting runs until noon on Feb. 13, when the winners will be determined.
  • The 30 finalists were selected from more than 6,750 entries submitted statewide.
  • The top eight vote-getters will be assigned to plows, one in each of MnDOT’s eight districts.
  • MnDOT excluded politically inspired suggestions, and the finalists favor playful pop-culture and music riffs such as “LL Cool Blade,” “Sled Zeppelin,” “Jon Bon Snowi” and “867-530 Brine.”
  • The agency operates about 800 snowplows across Minnesota, giving the winning names wide public visibility.
