Overview
- The Minnesota DNR launched the first phase of its PayIt-powered electronic licensing system for hunting and fishing on Tuesday, June 9, replacing a platform that had served the state for more than 25 years.
- Customers can buy licenses in a mobile app, online, or in person and carry them as paper, a saved PDF, or in the app while the app also lets users register harvests offline in areas without cell service.
- The DNR paused some sales from June 2–8 to transition systems and is offering online how-to guides, in-person license agents, and phone support to help users adopt the new platform.
- Officials say the system will give staff real-time analytics, marketing tools, and field-ready license verification to support wildlife and fisheries management while PayIt says the platform meets high security and compliance standards.
- Phase two will add recreational vehicle and watercraft titling and registration later this year, and the fully rolled-out system is expected to handle more than 3 million transactions across 400-plus products annually, preserving a key funding stream for conservation work.
